Titleholders displayed patriotism by supporting over 4,500 runners in Huntington Beach’s popular Fourth of July race

Huntington Beach, Cali. (July 4, 2009) – This morning the Huntington Beach Fourth of July Surf City Run 5K had special guests to help encourage the 4,500 plus registered athletes that took part in the race.  MISS USA Kristen Dalton, MISS CALIFORNIA USA Tami Farrell, MISS CALIFORNIA TEEN USA Chelsea Gilligan and 2008 MISS UNIVERSE Dayana Mendoza said a few words to help encourage the runners as well as awarded medals to each child as they crossed the finish line.  Adults, teens, and kids took part in this race which ran along the coast of Huntington Beach and through Main Street.

“I feel so honored to be apart of such a great race in this community, and on a day like today I felt the support of a nation behind me.  I am so thankful to be able to represent such an amazing country,” said MISS USA Kristen Dalton. “These runners today, young and old are the models of fun patriotic Americans.”

This event was one of the first appearances this month for MISS CALIFORNIA USA Tami Farrell since she had assumed the title and responsibilities of replacing former MISS CALIFORNIA USA, Carrie Prejean.

“It is amazing to be able to celebrate my country’s freedom with California residents, the runners showed an immense amount of patriotism, which was very touching,” said MISS CALIFORNIA USA Tami Farrell.

“The Surf City Run is continuously successful.  It is a great way to start the day of celebration and patriotism,” said the Race Director, Mike Bone of Spectrum Sports Management LLC.  “This year the crowd seemed to really enjoy these ladies, they stand for a good cause and hopefully we can have them out next year.”

The Surf City Run 5k kicked-off Huntington Beach’s Fourth of July celebration (following the race was the 105th Annual Huntington Beach Parade).  This race consisted of four different runs; Mother’s Market Huntington Beach Resident’s 5k Run/Walk, Open 5k, 5k Stroller Run, and the Thomas Kemper Soda Kids 1 Mile & ½ Mile Run.  This year there was near 4,000 participants registered. The Surf City Run benefited the Huntington Beach Jr. Lifeguard program, helping them to raise money for their program, special trips and outreach to the community.
